Abstract

This article deals with the issue of fictionalization in the composition of the metaphorical image according to two great masters of rhetoric and Arabic grammer. One of them was 'Abd al-Qāhir al-Jurjānī al-Ash'ari (1010-1078), who believed that metaphor is a statement of the fact that the image is related to feeling because the meanings are closely linked to words. He pinpoints that a metaphor is an expression whose meaning goes beyond its original meaning.  While Jār Allāh al-Zamakhsharī al- Mu’tazili (1075-1173), believes that metaphor is a representation of abstract meanings, and a method of moral embodiment. He excluded from the fictionalization its indication of lying and deception. This study reveals the difference in the opinion of both masters of rhetorical sciences regarding the fictionalization in metaphor.
